I'm a creative coder and data visualization specialist. I worked, most recently, at Quanta Magazine, where I helped to illuminate scientific discovery with code. I've spent the past decade or so working in data science, creative technology, and design. Before that, I was a member of the musicology faculty at the USC Thornton School of Music.
I grew up in NJ and went to college in Grinnell, Iowa. I then earned a PhD in Ethnomusicology at Brown University, where I wrote my dissertation about opera in Berlin. I live in San Diego, CA.
In my spare time, I like to produce exploratory Observable notebooks. I'm also developing software for multiscale signal processing and working on a book about the sounds of bells.
